Who is Marius Lancaster?
Born and raised in North College Hill, just outside Cincinnati, Ohio, I learned the importance of balance in life. Attending public schools in low-income neighborhoods before graduating from Cincinnati Country Day, one of the most affluent private schools in the city, exposed me to the disparities in access to education. This experience allowed me to navigate between different spaces, listen to diverse voices, and appreciate the value of pride and perspective, especially within Black and Brown communities.
My last name, Lancaster, holds significant meaning beyond just a name; it serves as a reminder of my family's history tied to the descendants of slaves. Although the name was given to us, the legacy we’ve created from it is uniquely ours. My family's story is an integral part of my identity, reflecting our journey toward community empowerment. Professional and Educational Journey
My professional journey has had many turns, allowing me to engage with diverse sectors including customer service, health care, cannabis, and retail before I found my niche in finance. Currently, I am with Fidelity Investments, where I began my career as a Customer Relationship Advocate and now serve as a Client Support Specialist. This role enables me to directly assist clients while fostering my personal and professional growth, particularly in ways that empower Black and Brown communities.
Education has always been a core part of my identity. During my time at Ohio University, I took on roles such as Lead Diversity Ambassador and Links Peer Mentor, eventually becoming Vice President of Engagement for the Master of Science in Management program. I earned recognition for my contributions to networking and student engagement, but the most fulfilling aspect was helping individuals discover their paths and witnessing my own growth. This journey has inspired me to consider creating a podcast about identity, focusing on community empowerment and sharing stories that resonate with others.
Why is this so important
When I was 25, I lost my first child. That moment changed everything for me. It gave me a reason to move differently, to find purpose in pain, and it’s why I’ve tried to create spaces where people in Black and Brown communities can learn, build, and heal together.
As the founder and host of Black Unquiet Minds, this platform began as a podcast about identity, voice, and truth. However, over the years, it has evolved into something greater—an effort focused on community empowerment and bringing education to Black and Brown communities. Here, we discuss money, access, leadership, and share real stories that often get left out of the bigger conversation.
